Position:  Direct Support Professional

Employee Classification:  Non-Exempt/Hourly

Supervisor:  Residential/Program Manager

Job Summary:  The Direct Support Professional (DSP) works daily with residents

living in CCI, Inc. supported homes.  The DSP will assure the provision of resident

care/health & safety while supporting individuals in exercising personal choice, as well

as achieving equality, dignity, opportunity and inclusion in the community.  All shifts are

awake shifts.  Sleeping on shift in a home or at training is grounds for termination.

 

Qualifications: DSPs at CCI, Inc. must be at least 18 years of age and hold at least a high

school diploma or equivalent.  The DSP must possess a valid Oregon or Washington

driver’s license or valid state issued ID.  The DSP must be free of alcohol or drug abuse.

Employees of CCI, Inc. will have no founded reports of child abuse or substantiated

abuse of adults as documented on the job application.  All CCI employees must have an

approved background check in accordance with Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR)

(407-007-0200 to 407-007-0370) and Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) (181.534).  CCI,

Inc. employees must have a command of the English language (i.e., writing, reading, and

speaking) and be able to communicate/respond in the event of an emergency. All CCI

employees must be legally eligible to work in the United States.

Essential Functions:  All CCI employees will treat residents with dignity and respect.

All CCI, Inc. employees are Mandatory Abuse Reporters and MUST report ALL

incidents of actual and/or suspected abuse to the Abuse Hotline as trained.  All training is

mandatory, including but not limited to:  CPR/SFA, Oregon Intervention System,

Medication Administration, ISP/PBSP, etc.  The DSP commits to attendance at all

scheduled trainings.    The DSP will provide resident supervision as defined by Individual

Support Plans (ISP), as well as, constant and consistent implementation of resident ISPs

and Positive Behavior Support Plans (PBSP) which may include physical intervention per

OIS guidelines. Administration of medications, etc. as prescribed by physician or medical

personnel.  Cleaning/sanitizing equipment, vehicles and grounds of residential programs

to ensure safe living and working environment.  The DSP will ensure the maintenance of

receipts and accountability for monies when signing for any resident funds or petty cash.

 

Utilization of Therap software for resident record keeping (T-logs,

General Event Reports-GERS, data tracking, etc.) and Kronos Workforce software for

purposes of personal timekeeping as well as adherence to all policies, procedures,

guidelines regarding use of electronic communications.  The DSP will ensure residents

are supported as defined in their ISPs.  This may include but is not limited to:  activity

schedules, the use of company vehicles, public transportation or walking to see that

residents are able to access the community, providing meals/snacks, personal care needs

(bathing, toileting, personal grooming, mobility, etc.), etc. The DSP will adhere to CCI

guidelines, policies and procedures, etc. at all times.  The DSP will accept other

duties as assigned by the Residential/Program Manager, Assistant Manager/Lead DSP

and/or Administration of CCI, Inc.

Work Conditions: DSPs at CCI, Inc. provide frontline support to the individuals we

serve, both children and adults.  These individuals are diagnosed with a variety of

Intellectual Disabilities, Developmental Disabilities, Mental Health Disorders, and

Medical Conditions.  Due to their disabilities, residents are often unpredictable and

at times may become extremely aggressive towards staff, peers and others (hitting,

kicking, scratching, biting, choking, hair pulling, throwing objects, etc.).  Severe self-

injury, suicidal ideation, severe property aggression and unsafe use of flammable

materials are also means by which individuals served express themselves.  Residents may

display behaviors of an inappropriate sexual nature.  This may include verbalizations as

well as attempts or actual grabbing or touching of staff.  Bending, stooping, twisting,

reaching, walking and standing may be necessary.  Lifting requirements up to 50 lbs. +

may be necessary.  Horseplay or engaging in contact sports at any time is not permitted.
